THE JOHN BUTLER TRIO
Famously starting out as an American immigrant busker in Perth in the mid-1990s, through a long hard journey John Butler has become one of the best-loved Australian musicians of all time. Fiercely independent, on his own terms he has released two number one albums and toured Australia countless times and has had 13 songs in the Triple J Hottest 100, not including Betterman hitting number 47 in 2009’s Hottest 100 of All Time. Now, the John Butler Trio is more popular than they’ve ever been. Last year they made an impact in the US by playing on the line up of the legendary Lollapalooza festival and touring with G Love and the Special sauce, then the following year their hit Betterman number 47 in Triple J Hottest 100 of all time. At the same time, the Trio’s new line-up spent the middle of 2009 in a studio in Fremantle, recording their fifth studio album, April Uprising, due for release in early 2010.
