GOGOL BORDELLO

Multi-ethnic gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello hail from the lower east side of New York City, but its core members are eastern European immigrants to the US, who brought with them violins, accordion, and a love of punk rock and dub fusion. Committed to smuggling gypsy music into the American mainstream just as their namesake Nikolai Gogol smuggled Ukrainian music into Russian society, the band has released four albums on indie rock and punk labels Rubric Records and SideOneDummy Records and tirelessly toured their adopted and traditional continents, North America and Europe. In their career they have been banned from iconic New York clubs like CBGB and the Bowery Ballroom for, in their words, “being too over the motherf...ing top”, scored plays for avant-garde theatre and Siberian-Mongolian throat singers, represented New York and the Ukraine at the Venice Biennale, campaigned for activist Romany rights associations and performed live on Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind mix of incendiary performance, politics and musical skill.
